WOKINGHAM singers are currently rehearsing their programme of music for a summer concert in June.
Wokingham Choral Society’s (WCS) evening of music, titled ‘And All The People Rejoiced’, is filled with the sounds that have accompanied the crowning of kings and queens of the realm, including that of King Charles III.
Chris Dunning from WCS explained: “The Summer Concert includes some wonderful uplifting choral pieces, some of which have been associated with coronations.
“Mozart’s small Mass in C Minor was named the Coronation Mass after becoming the preferred music for royal and imperial coronations, as well as for services of thanksgiving.
“Zadok the Priest was composed by Handel for the coronation of George II, and has been sung prior to the anointing of the sovereign at the coronation of every British Monarch since its composition. “And Parry’s wonderful anthem ‘I was Glad’ was composed for the coronation of Edward VII, and has recently been sung at the coronation of Charles III. “
Works by Brahms and Hadyn complete the choir’s programme of music, which will be conducted by George de Voil and accompanied on the organ and piano by Ben Giddens.
The Summer Concert will be performed at All Saints Church, Wokingham, on Saturday, June 21 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available, costing £15 for adults, and £5 for students and under 18s.
