THIS YEAR marks the 10th Anniversary of The Wokingham Walk, organised by Wokingham Lions Club.
Registration is open online for people to take part in the popular family fundraiser.
The event is a great opportunity to discover Wokingham’s countryside, and many walkers have told Wokingham Lions that they didn’t know such beautiful and interesting places existed so close to the town.
Walkers use the event in different ways; to catch up with family and friends; as part of the preparation for another longer walk; to raise money by sponsorship for their favourite charity and even to get the children away from their computer screens.
Wokingham Lion, Andy Slay, who heads The Wokingham Walk team said: “I’m delighted that this event continues to be very popular, and that both the Spring and Autumn Wokingham Walks are now firm fixtures in Wokingham’s Calendar.
“Local charities and individuals increasingly use the event to fundraise by sponsorship, something that we always wanted to happen from the event’s inception.
“We look forward to welcoming many walkers again this month.”
Wokingham Lions thank event sponsor, Clifton Ingram Solicitors, for supporting The Wokingham Walk, which, as usual, begins and ends at Wokingham’s Elm’s Field.
Participants can choose to follow either a 5, 10 or 15 mile route, and are asked to check back in on their return.
The event will take place on Sunday, April 19, with registration from 9.00am (8.30am for faster pre-registered walkers) until 10.30am.
The finish will be manned until 5pm or sooner, if all participants are back.
Registration costs £15 per adult, £5 per child aged 12 to 17 and is free for younger children (under 16s should be accompanied by an adult).
Proceeds from the event are distributed by Wokingham Lions to support local good causes, but walkers are also invited to raise money for their own charities too.
Participants arriving by car are advised that Wokingham town centre parking fees are payable on Sundays.
