AWARDS from Wokingham United Charities (WUC) have been spreading Christmas joy in the borough.
Christmas Cheer grants, given by the group to six Wokingham organisations, have enabled people for whom Christmas could otherwise have been a difficult time, to enjoy the festivities.
CLASP, The Link Visiting Scheme, Kaleidoscopic UK, First Days Children’s Charity, The Cowshed, and The Grub Club all received funds to help them alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with Christmas, and to make the season brighter for people who might otherwise have struggled.
The grant enabled CLASP members to enjoy a disco and Christmas party in Woosehill.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Martin.
The self advocacy group for people with learning disabilities in the Wokingham borough offers activities throughout the week for its members, and was able, thanks to the grant from Wokingham United Charities, to treat its community to a Christmas party.
Members had fun spending the evening together, dancing, and dressing up for fun selfies.
“I loved dancing and having a good time,” said Ashleigh, while Dean enjoyed the DJ and the venue, Woosehill Community Centre.
“We had great music, with lots of dancing and singing,” he said.
Lorna, Philip and Martin also appreciated the DJ.
“Stuart put on a fab show as usual, and we really enjoyed it – it was a wonderful night,” said Philip.
Michele Munroe, CLASP independence support worker, said: “Everyone had a fabulous festive time at the Christmas disco – a perfect way to get together, enjoy the dancing and singing and celebrate Christmas.
“So many people were so kind, and made the evening possible, from Wokingham United Charities, DJ Stu, Morrisons Woosehill and Squires Wokingham.
“We really are very grateful, happy Christmas to all from everyone at CLASP.”
