A BOROUGH music group is busy rehearsing for its Spring Concert to be held in Wokingham.
South Berkshire Singers (SBS) are preparing three major works, from composers Antonio Vivaldi, and Bob Chilcott.
First on their programme of uplifting music will be Vivaldi’s Gloria.
“The memorable tunes and infectious optimism of the Gloria have made this one of the most popular choral works of all time,” said Dave Donaldson, from SBS.
It will be followed by Bob Chilcott’s Jubilate.
“This concert work combines ancient words from psalm 100 with the poem Prayer by Gerald Manley Hopkins,” continued Dave.
“It’s deeply moving, and confirms Chilcott’s reputation as a composer of beautiful music with integrity.”
Last on the programme is Chilcott’s Latin Gloria in four movements, which Dave describes as: “uplifting and jubilant.”
The choir will be led by director of music Kate Walker, accompaniment from Simon Dinsdale.
The concert is free to attend, with a retiring collection at the end.
Donations will also be welcomed towards refreshments during the interval.
Proceeds will go to the three charities supported by St Paul’s Church: The Bible Society, Soulscape, and Home-Start Wokingham.
The concert can be heard at St Paul’s Church, Wokingham, on Saturday, April 18, at 7.30pm.
