Next year will mark the 50th anniversary for what has become a Wokingham institution.
Wokingham Lions Club, the force behind the May Fayre and Winter Carnival, are planning a host of events to mark the occasion.
They are planning several special events, including a second Classic Car Show on June 15, and a new event, the Wokingham Swimathon, on June 22.
Lyn Baily, president of Wokingham Lions Club, said: “To celebrate this milestone, we will also continue our spirit of giving with 50 ‘Golden Awards’ of £500 each to support local Wokingham charities and community organisations that wish to start a new initiative and need help with funding.”
Wokingham Lions is now inviting local charities and community groups to apply for the funds online.
It is particularly looking for organisations that are planning something new in 2024, such as a new project or service that needs funding, or a new piece of equipment to enhance or expand what they do.
Any funds donated will be celebrated online and on social media.
Lyn added: “We really look forward to hearing from local groups about what they are planning to do, and how we can help them in this special 50th year.”
