Dozens of families enjoyed Hurst’s Easter trail starring a giant 13 ft daffodil and much larger than life rabbits nibbling on a lawn.
There were 20 displays, including some in front gardens and windows, and others made by Hurst Hookers crochet and knitting group who crafted the daffodil by the village pond. There was a competition for photos of the displays.
Eleanor Savage, 18, won the prize for the funniest photo – a picture of her family’s dog, Joey, admiring Easter bunnies and chicks on a doorstep.
The cutest photo was of Marley Sanger, three, of Twyford, taken by her mum, Nicole, by a display in Tape Lane.
One hundred maps were handed out for trailers to follow. Afterwards the maps went into a prize draw for Easter chocolate, won by Scarlett Boardman, eight, of Hurst.
The New Hurst Village Society, which ran the event, thanked all involved including Hurst Cricket Club which hosted the post-trail barbecue and gathering on Easter Monday, St Nicholas Church for their cake stall there and everyone who took part.
NHVS chairman Ivor Fiennes said: “The number of people taking part surpassed our expectations – it was just superb. The displays were very good. All the effort by everyone involved really paid off.”
