GROUPS that provide support, information, and activities for people with dementia and their families have gathered today at stalls outside Wokingham Town Hall.
Representatives from AgeUK Berkshire, Understanding Dementia, The Link Visiting Scheme, Alzheimer’s Society, Age Concern Twyford & District, Wade Day Care Centre, Involve Community Services, and The Homecare People have all been chatting with members of the public who want to know more about services and activities available to help those affected by dementia, and their families.
Organiser Patricia Findley from AgeUK Berkshire said: “We’re here to raise awareness of Dementia Action Week.
“We’re sharing information, hearing people’s concerns and directing them to the services in the borough that are available for them.
“Yesterday we were in Woodley, outside Waitrose, where we had a very good turnout, with lots of footfall.
“Today we’re in Wokingham until 3pm, and tomorrow, Thursday (May 22) we will be in All Saints Church Wokingham.
“The Link cafe will run there from 10am until noon, and then the clinical lead from the memory clinic at Wokingham Hospital will give a talk about how to get a diagnosis, and what onward services are available for people.”
At 12.30pm, Patricia will speak about what AgeUK can offer.
Her presentation will be followed by refreshments, and an opportunity for people to network.
Visitors can just turn up, today and tomorrow, whether they are someone living with dementia, have a relative with the condition, or have concerns about someone else, or indeed, themselves.
Dementia Action Week runs from Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23.
The final event of the week will take place at All Saints Church, on Thursday, May 22, from 10am until 2pm.
