A FUNDRAISER organised by The Wokingham Lions in September far exceeded the group’s hopes and expectations..
A Swimathon at Places Leisure pool at Wokingham’s Carnival Hub saw 23 teams swim for a cause of their choice, including to support their own charity or group.
All the teams have now announced their individual fundraising totals, and the numbers, say organisers, are very impressive.
A spokesman for the Wokingham Lions said: “Our club is well known in the area for organising community and fundraising events like The May Fayre, The Winter Carnival and The Classic Car Show.
“However, the purpose of the Swimathon was to create an event for local organisations to raise money for themselves.
“All the swimmers rose to the challenge, had lots of fun, and raised lots of money.”
Every team exceeded their expected target, and between them the groups achieved an impressive £12,503.
The Swimathon wasn’t a race.
It required each team with a maximum of eight participants, to swim in relay for 50 minutes to see how many laps (two lengths) of the pool they could achieve.
As an incentive for those teams who wanted a competitive element to the event, there was a cash prize of £250 for the senior and junior teams that swam the most laps.
The Ollie Young Foundation won the senior prize and the Bracknell Under 16’s Rugby Girls won the junior prize.
Wokingham Lions Club thanks Places Leisure at The Carnival Hub, for their support for the event.
