Wokingham Town Football club kicks off its 150th anniversary season next week.
The club, which plays its home matches in the Combined Counties Premier Division North at Lowther Road in Emmbrook, was formed in 1875.
On Tuesday, July 29, the Sumas will travel to Holyport for the opening league match, before welcoming Bristol-based Brislington to Wokingham on Friday, August 1 (8pm) for a FA Cup extra preliminary round tie.
On Sunday, August 3, the club is set to host a ‘party on the pitch’ event, which will feature music from The Makeshifts, an inter-club junior football tournament, a bouncy castle, and more.
A number of Wokingham Town and Wokingham & Emmbrook legends have also agreed to share their memories as part of the evening entertainment, including former Chelsea and Wales star Darren Barnard, and Reading legend Adrian Williams – both of whom started their careers with the club.
Other former players expected to attend include Phil Alexander, Darron Wilkinson, Nicky Collier, Bobby Purser, and Wayne Wanklyn.
West Ham legend Alan Devonshire and his former team mate and ex-England international Phil Parkes will also be sharing their experiences of playing professional football at the highest level.
More information, and tickets, is available through the club’s website at www.wokinghamtownfc.club.
