NEIGHBOURING Reading will be hosting a breathtaking parade this Saturday.
A gigantic whale known as Big Blue will be paraded down Broad Street at 6pm as part of its Magical Christmas in Reading.
This glowing gentle giant is a messenger from the deep, with a haunting and urgent call for all of us.
With stunning lights, dramatic drumming and an army of shimmering jelly fish, Big Blue asks us to look up and out and see the world around us.
While the parade will be a spectacular sight, all who witness it will learn a vital environmental message about how plastic is damaging our oceans and planet.
The whale will begin its journey at the eastern end of Broad Street and make its way to the western end outside M&S in trails of smoke and lights and with beautiful music to accompany her.
Large jellyfish will appear and circle the whale and tiny jellyfish will rise up from the audience. Children’s voices will be heard with messages of hope for the future and the whale will begin to pulse with beautiful colours.
The sea of jellyfish and junk drummers follow with the crowd. As the whale reaches its final home outside M&S the area will flood with light and 100 people will be banging plastic drums.
This spectacular and unique free event is one of the must-sees of the Magical Christmas in Reading programme and is being created by Beautiful Creatures Theatre, a Reading based production company who tour physical and visual theatres across the UK.
Big Blue will return to Reading in December at Reading Station on December 8 and 14, accompanied by a giant bioluminescent squid.
