Poetry was the surprise hiding behind today’s window of Wokingham’s Living Advent Calendar.

TG Art Gallery in Peach Street welcomed Ben Warner for his performance of The Day That Christmas Died, a much appreciated riff on American Pie.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mr Warner said: “The Day that Christmas Died was a poem written to be performed at this year’s Living Advdent Calendar, together with a handful of other Christmas poems. My aim is to entertain.”

And entertain he certainly did with an appreciative audience.

The evening was compeered by Cllr Maurice Monk and Jan Rixon, who runs TG Art Gallery, ensured that everyone enjoyed mince pies and other seasonal refreshments.

Mr Warner’s Living Advent Calendar appearance is just one of a number of special events taking place in Wokingham town centre every day between now and Christmas Eve. A live performance will be held somewhere in Wokingham at 6.15pm or 4pm at weekends.
