A man has been jailed after smashing a glass into another man’s face during a late-night attack in a Wokingham pub.
Thames Valley Police said Gary Jordan, 50, of Windmill Avenue, Wokingham, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday.
Jordan was convicted following a four-day trial at the same court, where a unanimous jury found him guilty of one count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The court heard the assault took place at about 23:50 BST on 30 September 2023 in a pub on Peach Street.
During the incident, Jordan smashed a glass into the face of a man in his twenties, causing serious injuries that required medical treatment.
Jordan was arrested a week later on 7 October 2023 and was later charged on 20 July 2024.
Specialist Investigator Pippa Sharman said the attack had been “shocking and entirely unacceptable”.
“This was a shocking and entirely unacceptable act of violence, which left the victim with significant injuries,” she said.
“I want to thank the many members of the public who came forward in this investigation, especially those who gave evidence at court, and also the courage of the victim to continue with this investigation.
“This was an unnecessary incident which has caused such harm to those involved.”
She added that Thames Valley Police remained committed to protecting the public and ensuring violent offenders were brought to justice.
