Clive Jones, the MP for Wokingham, thanked the staff at Emmbrook junior school, and met with pupils during his visit last week.
The visit began with a tour of the school’s facilities, including their sensory room and learning spaces, giving the Wokingham MP an insight into how the school supports pupils with a wide range of needs.
He was shown around by head teacher Nicola York, deputy head Chloe Liddiard and year six pupils.
Following the tour, Clive met with the school council, who had taken the time to prepare thoughtful questions about his role as a member of parliament. The children asked about a range of topics, including whether social media is safe for children to use, how he supports schools in the local area, and how he represents the people of Wokingham in parliament.
He also discussed the government’s upcoming SEND white paper and how expectations for support and outcomes must be raised to ensure every child gets the help they need.
The visit concluded with lunchtime in the school hall alongside pupils to talk about their experiences at the school and the support they receive.
Following the visit, Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham, said:
“Emmbrook Junior School is an absolutely outstanding school, and it was a privilege to meet so many confident and talented pupils throughout my visit.
“A particular highlight was answering the many thoughtful questions put to me by the School Council, and it was wonderful to learn more about what matters to them.
“I want to thank the dedicated staff for the incredible work they do every day in supporting children here in Wokingham. Schools like Emmbrook Junior show what can be achieved when pupils are supported to grow and thrive.”
