The organiser of the Wokingham Poppy Appeal has been overwhelmed by the response to last week’s apparent act of vandalism targetting a town centre shop window display.
David Dunham said he’d been swamped with media interest, and touched by support from members of the public following the attack on Jay Printers.
The Denmark Street shop window was smashed in what appeared to be a failed attempt to steal replica war medals.
A crowdfunding page that was established to ensure Keith Campbell, owner of the business, wasn’t left out of pocket had reached more than £1,300 from more than 90 individual donations as of Wednesday morning.
Keith had also seen significant interest and support since the incident, with appearances on BBC, Meridian and GB News.
He said: “I’ve had people coming in and just wanting to donate, and drop money into the collection.”
He also confirmed two local businesses have paid for his new window and for initial repairs to make his shop safe.
“I’d like to thank Joe Sheridan from Foundation Paving and Simon from Allder Glass for their generosity,” he said.
David added that his crowdfunding appeal will continue until Remembrance Day on November 12, and that all donated funds will be given to the Poppy Appeal,.
