A WOODLEY young people’s theatre company is delighted to have received two pieces of good news.
Starmakers Theatre Company member Charlie Kendall has won an award.
And a grant from Wokingham Lions Club will enable the group to buy 12 graduation gowns for their forthcoming production of Fame.
Charlie, 14, won the National Operatic and Dramatic Association NODA London District 13 award for comedy, for his part as Dupree W Dupree in Starmakers’ production of Cry-Baby last year.
He was invited to attend a celebration day with Oliver Widdis, who played Cry-Baby, and Starmaker operations director Vicki Widdis.
Further encouragement for the group came in the form of a £500 award from the Wokingham Lions Club, as part of the fundraising organisation’s 50th anniversary donations scheme.
Vicki said: “We found out about this award in the Wokingham Today newspaper, when our Be More Chill article was published.
“We applied straight away.
“We’re going to be purchasing a dozen graduation gowns and matching mortar boards for our forthcoming production of Fame.
“Our old graduation gowns were sold during the pandemic when we had to close down our costume hire store and had nowhere to store them.
“These gowns will be treasured in our new storage facilities.”
Starmaker Theatre Company will perform Fame, The Musical, at Woodley’s Alan Cornish Theatre.
It can be seen on Thursday, October 17 through to Saturday, October 19.
Doors will open at 7.30pm, with an additional matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm.
Tickets cost £18, or £15 for concessions, and are available to purchase now.
An early bird reduction of 10% is available until July 31.
