Wokingham Town Football Club is hoping to break the attendance record for its Lowther Road home on Sunday afternoon.
The Sumas will take on Burgess Hill Town in the first qualifying round of this season’s Emirates FA Cup, having won its two previous matches in the competition against Brislington and Larkhall Athletic.
Those matches attracted crowds of close to 400, and Sunday could see the current record of 604 broken. That was set when near neighbours Binfield came to Emmbrook in August 2023 for a FA Cup tie.
Sunday’s opponents from West Sussex will be the highest ranked team to ever play at Lowther Road. They are currently in 12th place in the Isthmian Premier League – playing their football at step three of the non-league pyramid versus Wokingham Town who play at step five.
A win for the Sumas will also earn another £2,250 in competition prize money to add to the £2,569 they’ve already collected.
To aid fans’ entry to the ground, the club is asking for supporters to purchase tickets in advance, and to show the resulting QR code on entry to the ground.
Tickets cost £10 for adults and £6 for over-65’s students and armed forces personnel. They can be purchased online in advance from https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/wokingham/emmbrook-sports-social-club/fa-cup-wokingham-town-v-burgess-hill-town/e-vzpvke , but tickets will also be available to buy on the day.
Club president Mark Ashwell told Wokingham Today: “It would be wonderful to have a big crowd to cheer on the Sumas, and reward the team for what has been a really good start to the season.”
Kick-off on Sunday afternoon is at 3pm, and the match will also be broadcast live by Hospital Radio Reading, both to patients in the Royal Berkshire Hospital and online around the world through www.hrreading.org.uk.
