Residents in Wokingham Borough have been invited to vote for their favourite Christmas windows in Wokingham, Woodley and Twyford to show their support for local businesses.
Online public voting for Wokingham Borough Council’s first ‘Best Dressed Christmas Window’ competition is now open, and residents can visit the council’s Engage website to vote for their favourite window displays.
Awards will go to the businesses with the most votes in each area.
Voting will close on December 11 at 5pm, and the results will be announced on Friday, December 15.
A total of 37 businesses, ranging from a variety of retail shops, pubs to estate agents, have entered the competition to showcase their talents and spread festive joy.
A list of participants and photos of their glittering window displays are available on the Engage website.
Cllr David Cornish, executive member for business and economic development said: “We are delighted to see so many businesses taking part, and want to thank them for bringing sparkling, magical cheer to our village and town centres at this wonderful time of year.
“We understand the pressures our local businesses are facing due to the rising cost of living and the national increase in online shopping.
“We are therefore publicising all entries on our platform, with the hop4 to inspire more people to get out to visit our village and town centres, and shop locally.
“One of the best ways to support your local businesses is to explore these fantastic Christmas windows in person, before deciding the ones you like most.
“For those who don’t drive or prefer not to drive, why not take advantage of our free Saturday bus travel, which is available for all to enjoy in the run up to Christmas.”
Local buses operated by Reading Buses and Thames Valley Buses are now free to take within the borough until Saturday, December 23.
