MOST men would rather go to the pub than the supermarket.
But Gerald De La Pascua is not only happy spending hours at the shops, he also loves delivering a van load of food around Wokingham.
Gerald is a volunteer driver with Share Wokingham a locally founded food sharing charity with 15 sites in the town and surrounding areas.
Each week SHARE helps over 2000 people in our local community who need support foodwise by redistributing an incredible 40 tonnes of food from local supermarkets and suppliers that would otherwise go to waste.
And Gerald is one of the volunteers who ensures that much needed food gets to people unable to collect it themselves.
His friend, Emilie Lalahy, nominated Gerald for Community Volunteer of the Year. In fact, Emilie was so amazed at the hard work Gerald does, she donated her car to help him on his rounds.
She said: “Gerald is the loveliest person I know. He can be seen in all weathers going to SHARE, loading up with food and distributing it to those who need it.
“He also travels round supermarkets and shops like Greggs collecting items which would otherwise go to waste. But he does more than collect and deliver. Gerald has time for everyone, always stopping for a chat to people who might not see anyone else all day.
“Gerald spreads love and kindness as much as food. I was so impressed with everything he does that I gave him my car to help him.”
No referrals are needed for people using SHARE. Everyone is welcome. No questions are asked. You will just find friendly faces and plenty of fresh produce.
