A WOKINGHAM couple has just celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Michael and Alison marked their diamond wedding anniversary at West Oak Care Home, where they are both residents.
The couple’s love story began when they were both 15 and in the same class at Harrogate Grammar School.
After school they each went their different ways, Mike to study chemical engineering in Manchester, and Alison to complete a physics degree in Edinburgh.
But after meeting up again after graduation, they married in Harrogate on March19, 1966.
Their first daughter was born the following year, in Mask, Redcar, and a second daughter, Julia, was born in 1969, after the family had moved south to Windsor.
For 48 years, Mike and Alison lived very happily together in Wargrave.
But they also travelled throughout their marriage, and spent 10 years in Tehran, where Mike was working as an engineer.
They lived for a time in America, too, and frequently holidayed there.
The West Oak team pulled out all the stops to mark the couple’s 60 years of happily married life together.
They arranged a meaningful celebration for Mike and Alison, who now have three grandchildren.
Festivities included a cake baked by the home’s chef, a bouquet of flowers, and chocolates.
General manager of West Oak, Agnieszka Klimkowicz-Buda at West Oak said: “We have had such a lovely afternoon celebrating Michael and Alison’s anniversary.
It’s so wonderful to see two people still very much in love after all these years.”
