A WOODLEY vicar was invited to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in London this week.
Rev. Mark Nam, vicar of St. John’s Parish Church in Woodley, was asked by organisers of the Western Front Association Armistice Day Ceremony to travel to the capital to commemorate the Chinese Labour Corp (CLC).
Members of the CLC gave their lives serving the British during the First World War.
“They have been called The Forgotten Army,” he said.
“This is one way to try and change that.
“Of the 50,000 monuments in our country honouring those who served during the wars, there is nothing for the 140,000 Chinese workers, 95,000 of whom were enlisted directly by the British in World War One.”
Mr Nam’s wreath was laid on behalf of The Teahouse, a network which raises the profile and participation of Chinese-heritage clergy in The Church of England.
