Reading manager Ruben Selles has admitted that he is ‘disappointed’ with the EFL after their decision to hand the club another two point deduction.
The club has now been docked a total of six points this campaign and 18 in total under the ownership of Dai Yongge with the latest punishment coming because of late HMRC payments.
“The club had a hearing some weeks ago and you never know what to expect from those things,” said Selles.
“With the situation we are in it’s not surprising that those things are coming.
“It’s things that us from the football side cannot control and they are punishing us.
“We have to do as much as we can from the football side and get as many points as we can because the reality is that these things has happened and the past has showed us that these things can continue to happen.
“We cannot control but its difficult every time to get this disappointment.
“It happened on Monday late in the day I had a phone call from Mark (Bowen) and we decided a strategy to communicate for the rest of the club the day after and the club made the statement.”
Selles believes that the EFL has been ‘contradictory’ with their messages after they had expressed a sympathy towards the club in recent months with EFL Chair Rick Parry admitting that fining the owner will ‘do nothing’.
Selles continued: “We have been hearing some contradictions in the message. I don’t really understand why they keep pushing those things knowing that nothing is going to happen.
“I don’t understand how I get punished and my boys get punished because of something that has been there for more than a year. I don’t know exactly what they are expecting and the reaction they are expecting.
“They could have chose to do it much better so I am disappointed with the minus two point deduction. It could be more, it could be less. But the thing is they are punishing the workers from the club, the players, the fans.
“I’m not in direct contact with them but I am disappointed with that. It puts everyone of us in a worse position when it’s clear that we are not the ones who have made that fault. I expected more from them.”
