The 14th edition of the Wokingham Walk is set to take place on Sunday, April 13.
The event, organised by Wokingham Lions, will see all proceeds used to support local charitable causes.
It will start in Elms Field, and will have a rolling start time from 9.00am (8.30am for faster pre-registered walkers) until 10.30am. The finish will be manned until 5pm.
Routes will cover either five, 10 or 15 miles, and maps are available on the website. Registration on the day will be available from 9.00am until 10.30am.
Walkers are asked to ensure that they check back in at the end of your walk so organisers know that everybody is accounted for.
If you anticipate you will be able to average more than 3.5 mph over the walk, and would prefer an early start to avoid having to pass slower walkers who may have started before you, you are asked to indicate at registration so you can be allocated one of the earlier start times.
Pre-registered walkers will receive a requested start time by email to minimise congestion on Elms Field and along the routes. If the allocated start time is not convenient, or your friends have a different time, don’t worry. The aim is to even out arrivals, and you can come along at a time that best suits your plans.
Water bottles will be available for a donation, but bring sufficient water yourself if you are planning on the longer routes.
Dogs are welcome to attend, but must be kept under control at all times and on the lead in areas where livestock and horses are present.
All routes will be clearly signed with arrows to signify the different routes. The 5, 10 and 15 mile routes will be marked with mile markers.
Any hazards on the route will be indicated by a triangle with an explanation mark. You are asked to take special care when you see these, and be aware of your surroundings.
The 10 and 15 mile route will cross the fairways of a golf course on a public foot path. Pay attention to the signage asking you to look to check that it is safe to proceed before continuing.
In order to minimise the use of “one shot” disposable water bottles you are strongly encouraged to bring your own water supply in a reusable bottle.
There will be no rest stop on the five mile route, which is estimated to take around two hours to complete.
Please ensure that you carry sufficient water and snacks as there will be minimal opportunity to purchase these items on either route.
The 15 mile route will have a stop at the Queens Oak, Finchampstead (10 miles in), and the 10 and 15 mile routes will have a rest stop at Ambarrow Court car park (five miles in) There will be a supply of water and sweets/bananas at both stops.
U Bakery on Dukes Ride in Crowthorne, at approx four miles on the 10 and 15 mile routes, has confirmed they will be open, and are happy to provide toilet facilities if you buy a coffee.
You do not have to get yourself sponsored but the Wokingham Walk is the perfect opportunity to raise funds for the good cause of your choice.
