MEMBERS of a self advocacy group for people with learning disabilities in Wokingham have much to look forward to this month.
Michele Munro from CLASP said: “June is always an extra special month at CLASP, because it’s when we hold our Learning Disability Awareness Week.”
On Friday, June 12, clasp will be singing, learning and fund raising to kick off this annual event.
Then during the awareness week (Monday June 15 to Sunday June 21) activities will include launching a new VINE learning disability awareness video, a new Pen Pal Club for CLASP members, and a Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities (CTPLD) picnic and games in Elms Field.
Collaborative artwork, basketball, gardening, karaoke, and the opening of a sensory garden, with music from Phoenix Ukulele Band, at Oakfield Court will add further fun and variety to the group’s awareness week events.
CLASP is also grateful to be able to offer free I Play tennis sessions at Twyford Tennis Club.
Funded by Bright Ideas For Tennis, these are available for CLASP, and for members of the learning disability community.
No booking is required, and people can just turn up, but they must bring support if this is how they usually access the community, as it won’t be provided.
Tennis sessions are on Tuesdays, June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and July 7 and 14 from 2.45pm until 3.45pm.
CLASP members will also be spending time this month with their friends at Sedero Lounge.
The Wokingham cafe bar has LoungeAid fundraiser events planned, and CLASP hopes that local residents will support their activities to raise money for Wokingham borough adults with learning disabilities.
Sedero Lounge events this month include:
LoungeAid Bingo, with a summer holiday theme and fun prizes, on Thursday, June 4 at 7.30pm (tickets cost £5).
LoungeAid Bake Sale is the following week, with the Sedero team baking the lounge’s signature cakes, for people to enjoy all day on Saturday, June 13.
LoungeAid Quiz is on Wednesday, June 17 at 7.30pm.
LoungeAid Dog Show is on Sunday, June 28 at 4pm, (£5 per entry).
And fundraiser games at Sedero throughout the month will include:
Chase The Joker, a raffle to win a hamper, Guess The Number Of Jellybeans, and Name The Teddy.
Regular CLASP sessions continue in June, including; Movie Mates, Coffee Shop drop in, Dancing to Music, Happy & Healthy Club Sports & Fitness sessions (now 11am-12pm), Craft Club, Evening Drop-In at Sedero Lounge (and The Three Frogs on the second Wednesday), Active Session with My Journey’s Woky Bikes 4 All, Take Notice, Puzzle Club and Choir.
