Dinton Pastures to screen Grease in the big outdoors

OPEN AIR cinema is coming to Dinton Pastures with a special screening of the popular film Grease.

The 38-year-old film, complete with a popular soundtrack including Summer Nights, Greased Lightning and You’re The One That I Want, has been chosen by the borough council to launch what could be a new series of screenings for the country park in Hurst.

The screening, on Friday, August 5, starts with a performance by The Milkshakers, a vintage four-piece band, giving cinemagoers a chance to rock n roll on a specially installed chequered dancefloor.

Then, when the sun goes down, picnic blankets will come out and deck chairs erected for the big screen showing of the film, which stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as a high school couple and has been a staple of television schedules for many years.

To add to the Americana theme, diner-style food such as hot dogs and pink lemonade will be available to buy.

Organisers say that although this is a family event, the minimum age should be eight and under 16s need to be accompanied.

Ticket prices cost £32.75 for a premium ticket which includes deckchair hire, popcorn or a hot dog. Standard prices are £25 and children are £15. Car parking charges for Dinton Pastures are not included in the ticket prices.

Cllr Angus Ross, executive member for environment, said: “This is a fabulous new addition to the family activities already on offer in the borough’s flagship country park. What better way to enjoy a summer evening, than in the outdoors at Dinton Pastures?”

This is not the only showing of Grease in the region over the coming weeks.

Cult Screens will be at Wellington College for three nights in August. The Martian is shown on Thursday, August 11, Labyrinth is on Friday, August 12 and Grease will be seen on Saturday, August 13. Ticket prices cost from £13.85-£17.60 including a booking fee and seating options are deckchairs, cushions or beanbags.

Wokingham Open Air cinema will be returning over the weekend of Friday, August 19 to Sunday, August, showing The Italian Job, Wall-E and The Princess Bride. Entry is free, although donations are welcomed.
