Woodley Carnival brings Hollywood to Oakwood Park on Saturday &#8211; all the timings and details of the procession

IT’S Lights, Camera and Action this week as Hollywood comes to Woodley.

The stars will be out for what promises to be a blockbuster Carnival on Saturday where this year the theme is, At The Movies.

From the hugely popular Procession which starts at 11am in Comet Way on the airfield to the Evening Concert, keep your eyes peeled for some of Tinsel Town’s finest.

Peter Jacobs,one of the organisers said this year’s Carnival promises to be a glittering event.

“People have enthusiastically taken up the movie theme which is wonderful,” he explained.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to spot a Marilyn Monroe or some other famous faces. There is so much going on, there really is something for everyone.

“Even the weather for Saturday is looking dry.”

One highlight is a Spitfire fly past while other popular events include the classic car show, the flower show and dog show.

There are also some fantastic displays from local enthusiasts of model railways, traction engines, caged birds and a mobile petting farm.

The Carnival, which is held on the Memorial Ground (next to the Oakwood Centre) on Headley Road, will have over one hundred stalls from charities and local groups, a funfair, an arena filled with acts from local groups, food outlets, a beer tent, and inside the Coronation Hall teas/coffees and cakes by the local WI.

Earlier this week, the Oakwood Centre was the location for the crowning of the Woodley carnival Kings and Queens coronation.

This year the competition was open to boys and girls that either live or go to school in Woodley. Despite several male entries on the night the spoils went to the girls. Rosie Rackshaw 11 was crowned carnival queen, Sienna Singer aged 8 and Darcy Fuller aged 10 were crowned as the two princesses.

The judges – Sue Tyler, Alicia Witkowski and Jack Wright – had some tough decisions to make after talking to all the girls, their final choice was made based on their personality and ability to represent the community carnival both on carnival day, leading the procession in open topped cars, as well as the run up to carnival and beyond for the rest of the year.

The girls all received a sash, a crown, a goody bag as well as lifelong entry to the community carnival event. They also had their photos taken by talented amateur photographer Christopher Grace, as a lasting memento of the evening.
