A SCHOOL reunion went off with a bang on Saturday as former and present pupils and staff gathered at Emmbrook School for its 50th anniversary celebrations.
Former teachers, including Peter Shilham who taught history in the 1970s, visited the school in Emmbrook Road for a trip down memory lane with old friends and colleagues.
Displays depicting the history of the school, a showcase of trophies and medals won over the years, and a table dedicated to former alumni, including Judo champ siblings Megan and Ben Fletcher, were just some of the attractions during the day.
Current headteacher Nigel Matthias said: “It was a really great turnout, we had about 350 people come throughout the day, and we almost had people from every single year group of the last 50 years which is incredible.
“What was nice was we had Brian Kettlewell, one of the former headteachers from 1965, come along, and he got a chance to catch up with his former pupils and staff he worked with.
“Some of our current pupils demonstrated a rocket they had built and launched earlier in the year. It had a camera fixed to the nose and it gave us a great shot of Wokingham before landing back down on the school field. We wanted to include it to show just how much education has changed over the last 50 years, subjects such as computer science and engineering are so important to our students now but they just didn’t exist in schools in the 1960s.”
