An event that celebrated the 150th anniversary of the town’s football club won ‘Best Individual event’ at last week’s annual Football in Berkshire awards, sponsored by Grundon Waste Management.
The day-long event, which took place in August 2025, at the club’s Lowther Road home in Emmbrook, featured a ‘party on the pitch’ and ‘an evening to remember’, that included legends Alan Devonshire and Phil Parkes, as well as numerous former WTFC players, including Ady Williams, Darren Barnard, Terry Brown and Mark Harris.
The event also saw music from Matt Bond and The Makeshifts, as well as a visit from several VIP guests, including MP Clive Jones, the then deputy town mayor, Cllr Alwyn Jones, and Berks & Bucks Football Association president Bill Mcknight.
Jones also presented the club with a copy of the parliamentary early day motion he presented in the House of Commons in April, officially congratulating the club on its anniversary.
McKnight presented the club with certificates from his association, as well as a congratulatory letter from the CEO of the Football Association.
Club president Mark Ashwell, who helped to organise the event, and sponsor it through his company Trademark Windows, told Wokingham Today: “This award is for everyone who helped to make the event such a success.”
The club also picked up another award on the night, with teenage prodigy Aaron Peprah collecting the young player of the season (male) accolade.
