Plans have been approved that will allow a Sonning sports club to use its facilities until 10pm.

Berkshire County Sports Club applied to Wokingham Borough Council to be granted permission to use its artificial grass pitch at its Sonning Lane home until 10pm from Monday until Friday.

Permission was granted on May 28. Previously, the club only had permission to operate until 9pm.

In a letter in support of the application, the club said: “Having recently opened the new 3G (artificial) pitch, .. it is clear that there is demand for extending the opening hours to 10pm, on weekday nights as the club is already receiving a large demand for bookings.

“The 10pm usage would bring the hours of operation of the new pitch into alignment with those of the adjacent floodlit artificial grass pitches.

“The three adjacent pitches have all operated until 10pm for many years with no recorded complaints.”

The club added that an extension of hours to 10pm would allow a greater and increased community use of what is described as a valuable asset, thereby providing an added benefit to the community.

It will continue to operate until 9pm on Saturdays, and until 8pm on Sundays.
