MEMBERS of the LGBTQ+ community formed a brightly coloured montage as they gathered in Wokingham on Saturday for this year’s annual Wokingham Pride event.
Beginning with photographs outside Wokingham Town Centre, with rainbow flags flying, the group then led a pavement parade through the town centre.
Then, in Elms Field, people were able to enjoy visiting a range of stalls, and to listen to live bands while picnicking on the grass
Cllr Imogen Shepherd-Dubey, said: “It was such an excellent day.
“This is our fourth year of running Wokingham Pride event, and the biggest I’ve seen here.
“Lots of people turned up, and there was a burst of colour as everyone waved their flags.”
At Elms Field speeches were made, followed by an afternoon of live music from borough bands.
“It was a really nice community day, and we were delighted to have four mayors and two MPs join us,” she said.
The event was attended by Wokingham borough mayor Cllr Adrian Mather, Wokingham town mayor Cllr Rob Comber, Earley town mayor Cllr Mike Smith, and Woodley town mayor Cllr Juliet Anderson.
Also there, were Yuan Yang, Labour MP for Earley and Woodley, and Clive Jones, Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham.
“It was helpful to have an opportunity to share with them the concerns of our community,” Imogen continued.
“We welcome anyone supportive of our aims.
“We’re all about equality and inclusion, and this event makes it clear that we’re here, and we’re part of the community.
“Wokingham borough is accepting and supportive, but there is still a lot to be done.”
