The Lexicon in Bracknell has shownits support for The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal 2024 with a community inspired art installation and a Poppy pop-up shop.
Craft Coop led the appeal for knitted poppies and green link branches, enlisting the help of Age Concern Bracknell and various local craft groups and classes including children in EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than at School) to create the amazing display in the Braccan Walk pod.
Heidi Berry, Director at Craft Coop CIC, saif: “Craft Coop is thrilled to have been invited to create the stunning Remembrance Day poppy display at The Lexicon. We take pride in bringing together local community groups and residents to support this important commemorative event – from knitting, crocheting and painting poppies to even just donating yarn and recycled pie tins to help make it happen. Our involvement showcases the vibrant community spirit that we experience in Bracknell.”
The pop-up Poppy Shop, staffed by volunteers, on Braccan Walk, next to River Island, which will be open from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm until November 9 2024.
Visitors will be able to purchase 2024 poppy pins, paper poppies and other Royal British Legion merchandise including crosses, car poppies, snap bands, and much more.
Rob Morris, general manager at The Lexicon added: “We are pleased to able to offer support to the Royal British Legion again this year. Last year the pop-up shop raised £15,600 and we are hoping to beat that this year.”
Cllr Georgia Pickering, armed forces champion for Bracknell Forest, said: “It’s really important as a community that we acknowledge and give thanks to our serving armed forces personnel, their families and all of our veterans. Thank you to Craft Coop, The Lexicon, the Royal British Legion, and others for enabling us to celebrate, support and remember our armed forces community in the run up to Armistice Day through the Poppy Shop and wonderful display of artistic poppies.”
Cllr Paul Bidwell, cabinet member for economy and regeneration, added: “This is another great example of The Lexicon, council and partners linking up to support our community and making the town centre the heart of the borough. Such initiatives not only support very worthy causes, but they also help attract people to the town centre, which bolsters our economy.”
