A WOMAN from Bracknell has been given a suspended prison sentence for stealing from her employer in Crowthorne.
Elizabeth Chatterton, 51, of Wordsworth, was found guilty of theft by employee at Reading Magistrates’ Court on May 5.
She was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on June 21, was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment suspended for 18 months and ordered to carry out a total of 150 hours unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £620 costs and a victim surcharge of £100.
Between November 2015 and March 2016, Chatterton was employed as a cleaner at a property in Dukes Ride, Crowthorne.
During this time, she stole a gold charm bracelet worth £3,250 and later pawned it at a shop in Bracknell in March 2016.
The bracelet was later recovered and Chatterton was charged with one count of theft by employee on February 19.
Investigating officer, PC Paul Bentley, based at Loddon Valley police station, said: “I am pleased that Chatterton has been sentenced for her crime.
“She deliberately targeted a vulnerable victim and stole a very valuable item of jewellery from her.
“I hope that this sentence serves as a warning to other offenders of how seriously we take these offences, and that we will thoroughly investigate them in order to bring those responsible to justice.”
