Matt Foord has departed Bracknell Bees after 10 season with the club.
‘Foordy’, 36, has become a firm fans’ favourite during his spell at The Hive, having originally joined way back in the 2005/06 season.
As well as 10 campaigns with Bracknell, Foord has played for the likes Slough Jets, Swindon Wildcats but it is Bees where his association is so strong with 490 appearances and 252 points for the club.
“I just want to thank the Bracknell Bees family for all they have done for me throughout my career,” he said.
“All the back room staff and trainers, my coaches, my teammates who were like brothers and the fans that have supported me. I will miss you all.”
Bees director Richard Dobney added: “Foordy is a firm fans favourite and will be missed by them.
“He was extremely popular with his team mates and a pleasure to have around. I feel that hockey is fairly unique in that we all get to know players and their families well, so it makes saying farewell that much more difficult.
“I am certain that wherever Matt ends up he will use his experience to great effect and be welcomed. I know for sure that Matt and his family will always be warmly welcomed at the Hive and we will look to recognise his contribution to Bees during the coming season.”
Bracknell have also added another new signing this week in the shape of Tomas Karpov.
The Czech 29-year-old arrives following five seasons with Basingstoke Bison, new Bees coach Doug Sheppard’s former club.
“I’m very pleased Tomas will be joining the Bees next season,” said Sheppard.
“He really is the complete package. He’s a quiet leader that plays the game the right way. Tomas has exceptional speed and is highly skilled. He plays a gritty game at both ends of the ice.
“Tomas is the type of player and person you want to build your organisation around.”
