Reading FC are celebrating one year since Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair started their journey as new owners of the club.
After a convoluted and drawn out process which eventually saw the torment of Dai Yongge’s eight-year spell in charge come to an end, Couhig and Trosclair completed their purchase of the club under Redwood Holdings ltd.
Their first year in charge has been full of challenges both on and off the field.
After a difficult start to the season under Noel Hunt, he was sacked in October with the team hovering above the relegation places and replaced by Leam Richardson.
After an initially positive start and improvement in results under Richardson, the season ended in disappointment with many fans disgruntled with the manager’s tactics and style of play.
Posting on X to celebrate the anniversary of the new ownership, Reading FC said: “Happy one year anniversary to Rob, Todd and Rick. One year in. Stronger foundations. Bigger ambitions. The journey continues.”
Fans have given their reaction to the post and their thoughts on the owners’ first year in charge. Some reacted positively, with one saying: “After years of it being neglected, it will take time and investment to rebuild this club. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Their plan will take time and in the end when they sell the club, it will be in a better place than they found it.”
Another added: “Will be forever grateful to Rob and his team for saving my club from extinction. Would be even happier if he introduced onions with the hot dogs!”
One more said: “Thank you for saving our club, very much appreciated. Happy anniversary. Here’s to many more successful years for this great club.”
However, there were also some critical responses.
One fan said: “They hired a manager on the cheap who hadn’t been in a job for how long? Why was he never approached all those years? We now know why. Yet they won’t listen to the fans, even see for themselves.
Another added: “Good luck to them. Pressure is well and truly on now. Next season will be defining.”
