I WAS born in Berkshire and worked in the civil service for many years, and then in logistics.
Then I retired voluntarily and worked in construction, moving from a monthly salary to weekly pay and irregular work.
That’s when things began to go wrong.
I had less and less money in the bank.
I was dismissed from my job with 48 hours’ notice, and couldn’t pay any more rent.
Then, 10 days before Christmas I was evicted with four weeks’ notice.
That was a really, really tough time, and it wasn’t until the following March that I got my first Universal Credit payment.
I went to Share in Wokingham as a customer and they fed me – and still do.
Later, I became a volunteer there and part of the Share family.
My situation isn’t what I planned or hoped for, but the fact that my life changed like it did is probably a good thing, because I wouldn’t have met some of the friends I now have.
I attended The Well in October 2024 which was quite daunting.
But I went every week, as I wasn’t working then, and I started thinking about God and Jesus.
My faith has grown since then.
What people think of me doesn’t bother me now, because I know who I am and I know that God knows that too.
