A pub is organising a charity dog walk for its locals and their pets to help less fortunate dogs.
Taking part will be Sophie, a miniature Pinscher, which the pub landlord and lady rescued from her life as a street dog in Nicosia on the island of Cyprus.
Little Sophie settled in so well at The Wheelwright’s Arms, Hurst, that she’s now the boss dog there, putting Dobermans Steve and Colin firmly in their place, despite their much larger size.
All three dogs will be part of the charity walk with their owners Katie and Daryl Cooper and assistant pub manager Shane Simpson.
The walk to support Battersea Dogs Home is on Saturday, October 20. Those taking part can meet at the pub for breakfast at 9am, leaving to start the walk at 10.30am.
Landlord Daryl said: “The walk is £10 a dog, which will go to the Battersea Home, along with a small percentage from the proceeds of the breakfast.
“Battersea, which has a centre in Old Windsor, asked if we could help fundraise – we’ve long wanted to do a fundraiser for a dog charity.
“The walk will be two and a half or three miles round Dinton Pastures, achievable by all dogs and their owners. We want to support Battersea and also spread the word that we are a dog friendly pub which welcomes dogs.”
Katie and Daryl found out about Sophie via a dogs trust working in Cyprus. They collected her from her foster carer in Somerset.
