An update on the parking issues at Twyford railway station was provided at last week’s excessive meeting of Wokingham borough council.
Councillor Adrain Betteridge, the executive councillor active travel, transport and highways, updated the committee on Twyford Station access.
It was recognised that improving access to the station would require a range of measures, including support for more sustainable modes of travel as well as consideration of additional parking provision, while also taking account of the impact on local residents.
The meeting heard how partnership working would be essential to secure solutions, and the council was working closely with Great Western Railway, Twyford parish council, and other relevant bodies, with exploratory discussions starting to take place.
Proposed bus service improvements would make an important contribution and had received support through consultation, while further work was still required in relation to walking and cycling access, including potential funding arrangements.
Additional car parking was identified as the most complex aspect of the work.
The meeting heard that, although all options involved challenges and compromise, it was hoped that solutions could be identified, including the possibility of interim improvements while longer-term proposals were developed.
The positive contribution of the cross-party working group was acknowledged.
