AN IMPORTANT part of Wokingham’s Christmas came together on Wednesday, December 4, as schoolchildren from across the borough presented their decorations to the town mayor.
The youngsters had been hard at work in their classrooms to create the festive items, which are now on display on the large tree erected outside the town hall.
Each of the 12 schools taking part brought their decorations to the mayor, Cllr Lynn Forbes, and her mini-mayor, Stanley Shambrook.
Between each presentation, a number of carols were sung including Away In A Manger, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Hark The Herald Angels Sing and O Come All Ye Faithful.
Music was led by Wokingham Choral Society and a collection was held for the mayor’s charity of the year, Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre.
Cllr Forbes thanked everyone for turning up on the freezing cold evening.
“Thank you everybody,” she said. “Thank you Wokingham Choral Society for an excellent performance, way beyond my capability for singing like that it’s beautiful.
“A big thank you to all the schoolchildren for the lovely decorations they’re amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing them on the tree.”
The event is part of the Living Advent Calendar, with a different performance every night until Christmas Eve at a town centre venue. Weekdays take place at 6pm and weekends at 4pm.
