2021 Candidates

Andy Croy, Labour

Andy grew up on a council estate in Wokingham, served in the reserve Forces and taught in Sudan and Kenya before changing career to become an accountant. He has one grown up son who, like Andy, was educated at The Forest School, Winnersh. For two years Andy was the only Labour councillor on Wokingham Borough Council but he is now the leader of the Labour Group of four councillors. The Labour Group often provides the only real opposition to the Conservatives who dominate the Council.

Andy is currently heavily involved in trying to reshape the Conservative’s failing Climate Emergency Action “Plan” so that the Borough will be actually be carbon neutral by 2030 rather than just talking about it.

Andy believes a strong opposition is vital in a Council dominated by the Conservatives. Labour campaigns to reverse cuts to bus services, to stop the Conservatives taxing child maintenance, to stop taxing carers and to shame the other councillors into freezing their ever increasing allowances are examples of where Andy and Labour opposition have made a difference.

Andy has worked hard in the ward for five years and he and teams of Labour volunteers and resident litter-pickers are a regular and welcome feature of life in Bulmershe and Whitegates. He is proud of his ward, and proud to represent the people who live there.

Andy has been at 99% of meetings he was expected to attend. He hopes to continue to stand up for the people of Bulmershe and Whitegates and ensure their voice is always heard.

Sheila Jordan, Lib Dem

Shelia Jordan

I have lived in Bulmershe and Whitegates since 2003 and my partner and I have lived in and around the area throughout our lives.

I trained as an accountant and over the past years have worked as an administrator for a number of international development charities.

Away from work, my passions are for crafts, real cider and science fiction.

I believe in Liberal values, a fair, more equal society with opportunities for all, where no one is excluded or left behind.

I’ve lived in the ward since 2012, when my wife and I got tired of living in the Parisian suburb, and decided to try living abroad.

We have never regretted this decision, and thoroughly enjoyed living here with our 3 daughters.

One is now studying at the University of Portsmouth, and the 2 others are at The Bulmershe School.

I’ve worked in software, especially in startups in Reading, and I am very happy with my 10-minute bicycle commute! I’m a keen cyclist, and we’ve been living without a car for a year.

If elected, I will campaign to reduce the place of cars in the public space, and promote the use of walking, cycling or public transports.

I will also protect and improve the green space, and support our amazing local, independent businesses.

We all have a role to play to fight climate change, but this is also simply to improve the life of people in the borough!

Fiona Morley, Freedom Alliance

Fiona Morley

Fiona-Jane Morley born in Surrey UK in 1973 from birth she was immersed in a holistic, vegetarian and spiritual household with many eccentric family members.

Her maternal roots are Cherokee Native American with mixed British paternity.

She lived in five different countries as a child continuing into adulthood including various locations in UK, California, Spain, India and Bulgaria. She has resided in Woodley, Berkshire since 2012.

She is a natural empathic healer and studied holistic health, specialist bodywork, energy healing, astrology, yoga, horticulture and herbalism.

She has an active and diverse career as a self-employed professional gardener, well woman specialist therapist and astrological guide for the last 25 years. Other career pursuits are event coordination, head stewardship and production of events, national gatherings & festivals.

Enthusiastically making her own herbal medicines, cosmetics, domestic cleaners and growing her own organic produce; as well as foraging, hiking, permaculture, and wild swimming are her keen interests.

During the second lockdown she set up a ‘community interest company’ called New Paradigm Initiative, dedicated to nature conservation and eco-restoration with a group of like-minded individuals in the effort to work toward sustainable living using conscious ethics and principles.

Ms Morley says that she wishes to put her energy into spreading awareness and actively involving herself with the Freedom Alliance Party.

She says that everyone has the right to medical autonomy, freedom of choice to travel, carry out business and socialise with friends and family; even in spite of apparent unprecedented times.

She perceives that this is a highly controversial topic however in fairness to the entire world population and the stats, he believes it is possible to live free – respectfully, with integrity and compassion.

And she says that if she was elected she would encourage a humane approach to living which includes allowing people to leave home whenever they choose, operating businesses, speak freely, associate, assemble, protest and the right to refuse medical interventions.

Local elections are very important. All the key decisions that impact our daily lives are made at the local level – issues like, planning, education of your children, elderly care, bin collections and local roads & infrastructure.

I was privileged to serve Bulmershe & Whitegates residents until 2019.

During my eight years as your Borough Councillor, I campaigned to improve services.

Living in the ward since 2002, I recognise the issues that impact the residents because I have lived through many of them myself.

I am proud of my involvement in a record of over £30 million investment in Bulmershe & Whitegates, including £6m providing a new sixth form block in Bulmershe College; £6m building a high-quality elderly care home in Fosters Lane; £14m to build a new Bulmershe Leisure Centre and £4.4M extension for Addington School to create 50 additional spaces for children with disability.

In addition, I am heavily involved in the community in charitable and social enterprise work.

In 2005 I co-founded a local charity to improve academic and life chances of young people from vulnerable backgrounds. Over the years thousands of children have benefitted from this programme.

In the last year during the pandemic, I have been leading the “Feeding the homeless” project, where we provided thousands of hot meals to the most vulnerable people in our community.

Public service and to make a positive difference are what drives me to be a local councillor. However, I can only do that with your support on 6th May.
