One man’s lifetime collection of model trains went under the hammer in Wokingham earlier this week.
More than 500 lots that belonged to Caversham man David Bliss were originally expected to sell for upwards of £40,000, according to auctioneers Martin & Pole.
Phillip Knapper, principal valuer and auctioneer at Martin & Pole in Milton Road, told Wokingham Today: “The single owner auction of model railways attracted international bids from America to Taiwan.
“Every lot sold, and the prices exceeded our estimates.
“We are very happy for the family whose father spent 40 years putting the collection together.”
David;s love for model railways started when, as a child, his father built a track for him one Christmas morning. He went on to become a collector of all things railway related.
