THE WORK of an innovative Spanish architect will be discussed by members of the Arts Society Wokingham this month.
Jacqueline Cockburn, an expert on Spanish art and architecture, will be illustrating how Antoni Gaudi engaged with nature in the most innovative and extraordinary ways.
Gaudi is known for his rich ornamentation, vibrant colours, organic shapes and fantastical designs.
Inspired by natural objects and animals, he worked with extraordinary ceramicists, iron workers, tilers and decorative artists.
A private, shy and retiring man, he was also humorous and witty in his extravagant style.
His well-known and unfinished masterpiece is the Sagrada Familia basilica in Barcelona, but there is more to his work, says Jacqueline.
The Arts Society Wokingham is a friendly, vibrant society offering a full programme of lectures on the third Monday of the month, study days and visits.
Its live talks are also live-streamed to the Society’s YouTube channel so that members can watch from home.
New members and guests are welcomed to the popular monthly talks, for which reservation is recommended.
Jacqueline Cockburn will be sharing her enthusiasm and expert knowledge of Gaudi with members of the Arts Society Wokingham at King’s Academy, Binfield, on Monday, April 20.
Refreshments will be available from 7.15pm, with the talk beginning at 7.45pm.
Guest tickets cost £8.
