A SUSTAINABILITY store in Wokingham will celebrate four years trading at its Wokingham Peach Place shop.
Maya opened her Maya’s Refillables store in response to a growing demand from Wokingham residents for sustainable, planet-friendly goods.
She said: “From starting the market stall in 2019 with 17 products, through Covid deliveries, to opening the shop in 2022, and now having over 400 products on sale, it’s been the most exciting adventure.”
Maya says that she can hardly believe four years have passed – longer even than the time she spent previously trading from her Wokingham Market stall.
With the help of customers she has seen the refilling of 182,142 containers.
In CO2 savings this represents the equivalent to driving around the Earth’s equator 2.26 times (around 90,000 miles).
It’s the same amount of CO2 that would be absorbed by 1,673 mature trees, and it equates to 25 transatlantic flights.
“It’s also the annual electricity consumption of 43.5 homes in the UK,” said Maya.
“As an eco-community, I think we can be proud of this achievement.
“It’s not about being perfect – it’s about choosing to consume more responsibly and about making changes that matter, one step at a time.”
Maya invites residents and customers to join her in raising a glass and enjoying a slice of cake in celebration of the shop’s fourth birthday, on Saturday, April 18, during the day from 9am until 5pm.
Cake will be provided Jayne’s Vegan Bakes, with fizz and juice served by Hamlet restaurant (both Peach Place neighbouring businesses) and plastic-free balloons from another Wokingham store,The Wild Card.
