Clive Jones, MP for Wokingham, celebrates today’s confirmation of Reading FC’s sale to Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair, after years of campaigning by local groups, such as Sell Before We Dai.
Today, Reading Football Club announced that Redwood Holdings Ltd, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Sinclair, had completed its acquisition of the club and has been cleared by the EFL.
The takeover includes Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Training Ground.
Clive Jones said he was very pleased to work with people from Sell Before We Dai when he was a Wokingham Borough Councillor to stop the sale of the Bearwood Training Ground, in March 2024. The now Wokingham MP helped expose a key planning permission clause that meant the ground could only belong to Reading FC.
During debates on the Football Governance Bill, Clive Jones called for club’s assets to be protected, and for owners to be held responsible throughout their tenure.
Speaking after the takeover announcement, Clive Jones said: “I am absolutely delighted to learn that Reading FC’s sale to Rob Couhig and Todd Sinclair has been finalised.
“What this club, the fans and the community has been through since 2017 has been nothing short of a nightmare.
“Reading should never have been on the brink of extinction in the first place, and we must work to ensure this never happens again.
“Groups like Sell Before We Dai and Supporters Trust At Reading, and fans like Sue Symes, must be commended for their work campaigning to save this historic club, and I am happy I have been able to help in anyway possible.”
