MP Clive Jones walked to school with nine-year-old resident Theo Pitts and his father after Theo wrote a letter to the MP discussing his safety concerns about his walk to Farley Hill primary school.
Theo’s letter described his recent walk to school, where when he was crossing the junction of Rowcroft Road and Sheerlands Road in Arborfield, a driver did not see Theo and dangerously sped round a stationary bus.
The driver slammed on the brakes and avoided hitting Theo, who was crossing at a location used by many children on their walks to Bohunt School and Farley Hill Primary School.
After reading Theo’s letter, Clive Jones MP met with Theo and his father, Ian, and followed the route to school to discuss Theo’s concerns.
Theo’s route took the group to Farley Hill primary school, where the Wokingham MP pledged to work with Theo and the council to end dangerous driving in the area.
Following the walk to school, Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham, said: “I’m very pleased Theo raised his concerns about road safety on his walk to school – a route that many children take to get to school in Arborfield.
“Walking with Theo to his school, I saw for myself the extent of his safety concerns when drivers were driving well over the speed limit.
“Speeding near a school is absolutely unacceptable and puts the safety of countless children in danger.
“I know our local council is working on plans to make our streets safer, for everyone. I will work with them and Thames Valley Police, and Theo, to act on his concerns and make our streets safer for children.
“Well done Theo.”
