Cheers rang out across a village as a midweek team won a knock out cricket competition.
Hurst Cricket Club’s Midweek XI beat Earley Cricket Club midweek players to win the Keith Mitchell Memorial Cup in a competition run by Reading Midweek Cricket League.
This season saw Hurst C C merge with Wokingham area’s Rangers C C, with the merged club being based at Hurst. Rangers won the same cup last year.
Hurst, playing at home last week, batted first and scored 166, going on to win by 46 runs. There are about 12 teams in the competition.
Hurst midweek captain Prem Yadav said: “We were happy with the result. Hurst is a lovely club and ground. The members are mingling well and the club is growing.” And he added: “Playing cricket is for fun as well as winning cups.”
On Tuesday the Hurst club was top in division one of the Reading Midweek Cricket League. They had two games left to play.
