DINERS looking for a gluten free experience are being invited to eat at the borough’s newest restaurant.
Jessy’s opened in Denmark Street on Saturday and the menu offers everything from breakfast to evening meals.
The independently owned diner, on the site of the old Don Beni restaurant, hand out free pastries to the first customers through its doors, giving guests a chance to taste the new menu.
And as owner Jessica Palmer, 27, is half-American, there are some Stateside influences on offer, including waffles.
She is looking forward to the launch of the restaurant, which is a long cherished ambition for her.
Speaking to The Wokingham Paper ahead of the launch she said: “We will be a gluten-free paradise. The majority of our menu is gluten-free. We have had a nice reaction on Facebook, the gluten-free thing has gone down very well.
“We will buy our meat from Stefan’s the butchers, we will use all high quality ingredients and it will all be fresh.”
Afternoon diners will be able to enjoy a high cream tea, which Jessica said needs to be booked in advance.
“We will also change our menus regularly, it will make it more interesting for people.”
Although this is her first restaurant, Ms Palmer has extensive experience in the industry, having worked in restaurants since she was a teenager.
“I know the Wokingham market well,” she said. “I’ve lived here since I was seven and my first job was in a restaurant when I was 13.
“Our prices are quite competitive, I’ve done a lot of research, and I feel the quality is very good.”
