Both Kings adult teams were in action this past Sunday with a double-header of fixtures away at Blackhawks.
Kings first team started their Division 1 campaign looking to get off to a winning start. The Line up included new signings – Tom Tobin, Adele Atkin, and George Gray.
Kings won the tip and opened the scoring through Liam Barker but Blackhawks replied quickly with three points of their own, Kings upped the tempo on defense which helped them score 14 points without reply with Tobin and Gray getting their first points and Reece Barker opening this seasons account. Kings finished the quarter leading 20-10.
The second quarter saw Kings show great defense with Blackhawks only able to score one basket, at the other end Kings used their speed to devastating effect with all four scorers adding to their tally and going into halftime leading 36-12.
The third quarter went in the same direction with Kings really taking control of the game scoring another 14 points to Blackhawks two. Atkin scored her first points for the club and Chris Nash opened his season account with Tobin, Gray, and R.Barker also scoring. Kings lead 50-14.
The fourth quarter was a more even scoring quarter with Kings rotating the bench but still saw great defense making life hard for the Hawks. Kings winning the game 60-24 and start their Division 1 campaign with a huge win.
Head coach Grant Barker said “It’s a fantastic win, we still have a lot more to give as a team but this is the perfect starting block.”
The second team were up next in the Division three game and both teams started well, but it was Kings who took the lead at the end of the first quarter, 10-5 with Corey Bloomfield, Peter Rapley and Joe Humphreys all finding the basket.
The second quarter saw the Kings take control with a solid defensive display that saw Blackhawks shut out and an on-fire Peter Rapley who even hit a buzzer-beating with Kings taking a 19-5 lead at the half.
The third quarter Kings extend their lead to 24 – 13 and saw Humphreys and Rapley joined by Conal O’Donovan on the score sheet.
Kings went into the final quarter knowing they had to take all their opportunities to seal a memorable win and they delivered adding 11 points between them giving Kings seconds the commanding eighteen point win 35-17.
