A part of Wokingham town centre history sold at auction last week.
A sign that once belonged to Woolworths in Peach Street, sold for £200 plus fees at the auction by Martin and Pole.
It was described at: “A projecting Woolworth shop sign from Peach Street, Wokingham, which closed on January 6, 2009.”
The sign was estimated at between £200 and £300 prior to the sale.
Valuer Mark Weekly told Wokingham Today: “The sign was salvaged by an ex employee when the Wokingham branch closed its doors for the last time.
“That ironically coincided with the 100-year anniversary of the first UK Woolworth store opening in 1909.”
The former Woolworth store is now home to Poundstretcher.
