Hillside was a Lib Dem scalp in 2019, seeing Caroline Smith beat incumbent Conservative Norman Jorgensen. He has since been re-elected, so is not standing in this election. Caroline Smith is defending her seat against newcomer Moses Iyengunmwena.

Moses Iyengunmwena, Conservative

I love living here in Earley and want to ensure that it continues to be the best place to live. I moved to Earley in 2004 and my wife and I have raised our family here.
I am currently one of the directors of an engineering company and am very keen to encourage young people to enjoy science and technology, and consider STEM careers. Passionate about education, I volunteer as a Governor at Oakbank School.
Since Covid, I have been helping church community projects to collect groceries from local supermarkets to deliver food parcels to those in need.
I help co-ordinate a local business group to empower black business entrepreneurs to grow and run thriving small businesses.
If elected, I would work with Cllr Pauline Jorgensen and stand up for Hillside residents. Pauline is well known for her persistence in resolving local issues and I will be doing my best to work as hard!
We have been campaigning together, getting support for the petition to keep weekly bin collections and to scrap the huge increases in car park charges.
I look forward to meeting you at your doorsteps in the coming weeks. But you don’t need to wait for me to knock on your door. If you have any concerns or want to share your views, please contact me.
With your support on 4th May, I will be another strong voice determined to get the high-quality services we deserve, with prudent financial management.
Caroline Smith, Lib Dem

I grew up in Reading and moved to Earley over 38 years ago. We had a young son at the time and twin girls came along three weeks later.
They all went to local schools and I was a school governor at two of these.
I was originally elected as a councillor in 1999 and, after a break, again as a Borough and Town councillor in 2019, through challenging times for our community.
I truly believe that the Liberal Democratic policies national and local help residents to live their best lives and that my best way to make sure this happens is to continue to represent them as a Lib Dem councillor.
