Finchampstead residents are being urged to go to the polls next week and have their say on the future of the area.
The vote will decide whether to adopt the Finchampstead Neighbourhood Development Plan, which will create a planning policy that will guide future development in the parish.
Allan Gibson, chair of Finchampstead Future which has created the plan, told Wokingham Today: “The Neighbourhood Plan will not stop development, but it will be a way people can influence how and where development takes place.”
The policies in the Plan have been created following extensive consultation and research over four years.
The referendum will take place on September 7, and if a majority approve the Plan, it will form the starting point for assessment planning applications alongside the local plan.
Allan added; “If the Plan is approved, it will be a statutory legal document that Wokingham Borough Council must take into account.
“Having the Plan as part of the Borough’s planning policies means that the people of Finchampstead will have a stronger voice when decisions are being made about building and other developments in our area.”
He added that during a number of roadshows held recently in the run-up to the vote, residents have broadly supported the Plan.
