Voters in the Wescott East ward of Wokingham Town Council will head to the polls later this month for a by-election.
The election will see one vacant seat filled, with voting taking place between 7am and 10pm. on Thursday August 24.
As was the case for the local elections in May, voters must be registered. They will also be required to present suitable photographic ID, which includes a passport, a full or provisional driving licence, a blue badge, certain concessionary travel cards, such as an older person’s bus pass, an Oyster 60+ card, or an identity card with Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) mark, a biometric Immigration document, a defence identity card and certain national identity cards.
Expired ID will also be accepted as long as the photograph on the document still resembles a likeness to the elector.
Anyone who does not have suitable ID can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate online or by contacting the council’s electoral services team. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Wednesday August 16.
Andrew Moulton, returning officer for Wokingham Borough Council, said: “It is important for residents who wish to vote at this by-election to remember to bring ID when they vote. It may be the first time they have had to navigate this new change, but our electoral services team is happy to help and ensure you can make your voice heard.”
Anyone needing assistance can contact the electoral services team at [email protected] or by calling (0118) 974 6000.
